• Location

    Situated close to Beeley Moor on the edge of the Peak District National Park, and within a short driving distance of Bakewell and the Chatsworth estate to the west, and Chesterfield to the east, the parish of Holymoorside and Walton covers an area of 1,485 hectares of mainly farm and moorland with the village of Holymoorside at its centre. The village has a school, two public houses, three churches, a post office/general store, funeral director and a village hall.

    People

    The parish of Holymoorside and Walton had, at the last census in 2011, a resident population of 2223 people living in 979 residences and although much of the land is laid down to mixed farming only 26 residents were employed in agriculture with most residents earning their living outside the parish, commuting to nearby Chesterfield, Sheffield or further afield.

    Travel

    A regular bus service (currently 2 an hour at peak times) provides transport into Chesterfield town centre for banking and shopping and the railway and bus stations for travelling further afield.

    Recreation

    Holymoorside village hall provides recreational and educational opportunities for the parish with regular classes and activities and is a popular venue for private social events. Football matches are held on the village recreation ground most weekends in season and there is a bowling green, tennis courts and allotments to rent. Community groups also meet in the village school, URC meeting room and at the Community Develpment Centre in Walton. A mobile library service also facilitates Holymoorside & Walton.
